Roedd y teulu yn ddisgynyddion o Dywysogion Cymru a rhyw bryd cyn 1500, fe brynwyd Gwydir gan Maredudd ap Ieuan ap Robert, a oedd yn byw yng Nghastell Dolwyddelan.<\/p>\n<p>Dros y canrifoedd roedd gan y teulu dylanwad gwleidyddol cryf a chysylltiadau agos gyda llinach frenhinol y Stiwartiaid yn ogystal \u00e2 chysylltiadau tramor yn Ewrop. Pan ddymchwelwyd Abaty Maenan ar adeg datgysylltu\u2019r mynachdai, cafodd Syr John Wynn caniat\u00e2d i brynu maint sylweddol o gerrig o\u2019r Abaty er mwyn adeiladu Gwydir.<\/p>\n<p>Fe wnaed llawer o waith da gan deulu\u2019r Wynn yn yr ardal, yn cynnwys adeiladu\u2019r elusendai\u00a0 a\u2019r bont yn Llanrwst. Robert Wynn fu\u2019n gyfrifol am ddechrau\u2019r gwaith o adeiladu Plas Mawr yng Nghonwy ym 1525 ac ysgrifennwyd hanes y teulu gan un arall o\u2019r teulu.<\/p>\n<p>Adeiladwyd Capel Gwydir Uchaf ym 1673 gan Syr Richard Wynn fel cofeb i deulu Wynn.\u00a0 Priododd ei ferch gyda\u2019r Arglwydd Willoughby de Eresby o Swydd Lincoln, Dug 1af Ancaster ac o ganlyniad i hyn bu Gwydir yn wag am gyfnod maith a diriwyd dylanwad y teulu yn yr ardal. Yn dilyn\u00a0 t\u00e2n ar y safle, fe gliriwyd y gweithdai o fframwaith coed oedd o amgylch y cwrt. Fe ddifrodwyd rhan o\u2019r t\u0177 gan d\u00e2n yn ddiweddarach ond ym 1828 cafodd yr adeilad ei ailwampio gan Charles Barry, y g\u0175r a adeiladodd Palas San Steffan.<\/p>\n<p>Ym 1896 fe werthwyd Gwydir i\u2019r Arglwydd Carrington, eto o swydd Lincoln ac yn un o gefndryd y perchennog ar y pryd. Yn ddiweddarach, gwerthwyd i Randolph Hearst, yr Americanwr enwog a barwn papurau newydd, cynnwys dau ran mewnol o\u2019r adeilad, sef, yn gyntaf, panelau\u2019r ystafell bwyta o gyfnod y Stiwartiaid ac yn ail, cynnwys yr ystafell dderw.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elan M.
