Roedd Mr Bob Daimond, ein g\u0175r gwadd am y noson, yn siarad ar ran Ymddiriedolaeth Treftadaeth Cymuned Porthaethwy. Fe\u2019I ganwyd ym 1757 i deulu tlawd yn Ardal y Ffin yr Alban, lle cafodd ei fagu. Yn 14 mlwydd oed, daeth yn brentis i saer maen ac yna symudodd o gwmpas y DU yn hogi ei sgiliau ac yn ennill profiad. Tra bu\u2019n byw yn Swydd Amwythig, adeiladodd oddeutu 40 o bontydd a 3 eglwys, yn cynnwys Eglwys St Mihangel yn Madeley, yr eglwys wythonglog cyntaf. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"justify\"><span lang=\"cy-GB\">Dechreuodd ei gysylltiad \u00e2 Gogledd Cymru ym 1793 pan gafodd ei benodi\u2019n Asiant Cyffredinol a Pheiriannydd i adeiladu Camlas Ellesmere, a pharhaodd y cysylltiad yma wrth iddo adeiladu Pontcysyllte, y draphont dd\u0175r mordwyol hiraf ag uchaf ym Mhrydain ar y pryd.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5736\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5736\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5736\" src=\"http:\/\/www.deganwyhistory.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/2019_Apr_Bridge1-300x154.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deganwyhistory.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/2019_Apr_Bridge1-300x154.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.deganwyhistory.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/2019_Apr_Bridge1-768x395.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.deganwyhistory.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/2019_Apr_Bridge1-1024x527.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5736\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Telford&#8217;s Conwy Bridge<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"justify\"><span lang=\"cy-GB\">Mae\u2019n debyg bod Thomas Telford yn cael ei gofio yn bennaf yn y rhan yma o Ogledd&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"cy-GB\">Cymru am ei waith ar \u201cFfordd Gaergybi\u201d (rhan o\u2019r briffordd o Lundain i Ddulyn), Pont Grog y Fenai a Phont Grog Conwy. Cynigodd i&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"cy-GB\">adeiladu \/gwella\u2019r briffordd o\u2019r Amwythig i Gaergybi am \u00a3394,000, a chafodd ei ddewis i&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"cy-GB\">wneud y gwaith hwn oherwydd ei enw ardderchog ym maes peirianwaith yn yr Alban, yn cynnwys adeiladu 875 milltir o ffyrdd, 1117 o bontydd, dros 40 harbwr, Camlas y Caledonian, 32 o eglwysi, 40 mans a llawer mwy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"justify\"><span lang=\"cy-GB\">Nid adeiladu Ffordd Gaergybi (sef yr A5) oedd unig orchest Thomas Telford, ond fe greodd yr isadeiledd i gyd-fynd a\u2019r ffordd, megis tolldai, tollbyrth a cherrig milltir, llawer ohonynt dal i\u2019w gweld heddiw. Pan yn briodol, defnyddiodd adeiledd oedd eisoes yn bodoli megis y bont 7 bwa yng Nghorwen. Dechreuwyd ar y gwaith o adeiladu Pont Grog y Fenai ym 1819 ac fe\u2019i hagorwyd ym 1826. Y gost oedd \u00a3185,397. Adeiladwyd Pont Grog Conwy rhwng 1822 ac 1826 am gost o \u00a351,000 i gymryd lle\u2019r fferi oedd ar yr un safle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"justify\"><span lang=\"cy-GB\">Bu farw Thomas Telford ym 1834, yn \u0175r llawer ei barch gan ei gyfoedion. Datganodd Parnell, trwy ddyfynnu Storch ar bwysigrwydd gwaith peirianwyr \u201car \u00f4l diogelu eiddo a phobl, ni all unrhyw lywodraeth rhoi i wlad unrhyw fudd mwy na gwella ei phorthladdoedd, camlesi a ffyrdd\u201d. Disgrifiwyd Thomas Telford gan Robert Southey fel \u2018Colossus of Roads\u201d.
