Daeth cynulleidfa fawr o aelodau a gwesteion i\u2019n cyfarfod diwethaf i glywed sgwrs hynod ddiddorol gan Dr Erin Lloyd Jones.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mae Dr Lloyd Jones yn archeolegydd cymwysedig o fri rhyngwladol gydag arbenigedd penodol mewn bryngaerau Cynhanes. Ymhlith ei rolau niferus mae wedi gweithio gyda\u2019r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol, Prifysgol Bangor, Prosiect Grug a Bryngaerau – Cynllun y Bartneriaeth Tirwedd a gyda Cadw. Nawr, rhwng archwilio, ymchwilio a gweithio fel Rheolwraig Ymgysylltu \u00e2 Rhanddeiliaid, Partneriaethau a Digwyddiadau Cymru Greadigol, mae\u2019n rhannu ei hangerdd dros dreftadaeth, traddodiadau a diwylliant Prydain trwy ei straeon hynod ddiddorol ac roedd yn bleser gennym ei chroesawu i Gapel Peniel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dechreuodd ein siaradwr gyda hanes byr am oresgyniad Edward 1 a\u2019r cestyll Cymreig a adeiladwyd ganddo i fod yn symbolau o b\u0175er a goruchafiaeth Lloegr. Comisiynodd Edward yr arglwyddi lleol i adeiladu’r cestyll hyn ac erbyn 1295 roedd cestyll yn bodoli yn y Fflint, Conwy, Harlech a Chaernarfon. Dechreuodd y gwaith ar gastell Biwmares ym 1295 ac fe’i cynlluniwyd i fod yn binacl ar raglen uchelgeisiol Edward ond ni chafodd ei gwblhau. Pam digwyddodd hyn?<\/p>\n

Sefydlodd Edward ei gastell olaf yng Ngogledd Cymru ar gorstir yn Llanfaes. (“Biwmares” yn cyfieithu o Ffrangeg Normanaidd fel “cors hardd”). Symudwyd poblogaeth Gymreig y dref i Niwbwrch yr ochr arall i Ynys M\u00f4n. Ni chaniatawyd i unrhyw adeiladwyr na chrefftwyr Cymreig weithio ar adeiladu’r castell na byw yn y dref
\nDaw llawer o’n gwybodaeth am y gwaith o adeiladu ac adeiladwyr y castell o Roliau Llys Edward 1 (y Cyfrifon Brenhinol). Gan ddefnyddio\u2019r cofnodion hyn, fe welwn fod y castell wedi codi\u2019n gyflym i ddechrau gan ddefnyddio carreg leol o Benmon. Daeth adeiladwyr, seiri, seiri maen, gofaint a llawer o grefftwyr eraill o Loegr a thramor i weithio ar y castell.<\/p>\n

Felly pam na chwblhawyd y castell yn llawn? Ymddengys mai\u2019r ateb yw bod uchelgeisiau milwrol Edward wedi newid i ddarostwng yr Alban. Dechreuodd arian fynd yn brin, gadawodd yr adeiladwyr y safle a daeth y gwaith o adeiladu\u2019r castell i ben (dim byd yn newid\u2026)<\/p>\n

Yna tynnodd Dr Lloyd Jones ein sylw at nodweddion presennol y castell: Roedd hyn yn cynnwys y cerflun diweddar o Feistr James o San Si\u00f4r, Prif Bensaer y castell. Mae prosiectau diweddar yn cynnwys gosod gwydrau newydd yn ffenestri’r Capel. Comisiynwyd artistiaid lleol i ddarparu ffenestri lliw. Mae byrddau dehongli wedi\u2019u gosod ac fe anogir ymwelwyr i fynd i\u2019r Ystafell Arddangos lle gallant adeiladu eu sgaffaldiau canoloesol eu hunain, grisiau troellog a bw\u00e2u gyda meini clo. Gan fod yr holl bren wedi diflannu o\u2019r castell, gall ymwelwyr roi eu trawstiau to eu hunain at ei gilydd. Gellir ail-greu a chlywed synau, gan gynnwys s\u0175n gof yn gweithio, a gall ymwelwyr ganu tiwbiau metel sy’n creu s\u0175n telyn.<\/p>\n

Yna cyfeiriodd ein siaradwr at y nodweddion sydd, yn \u00f4l y cynlluniau gwreiddiol a\u2019r archeoleg sy\u2019n weladwy, ar goll yng Nghastell Biwmares. Mae’r rhain yn cynnwys y llawr uchaf a’r porthdy. Fodd bynnag, mae llawer o nodweddion gwreiddiol yn creu penblethau eu hunain. Gwelsom sleidiau o \u201cmarciau seiri maen\u201d. Mae’r rhain i’w cael mewn cestyll ac eglwysi ac mae’n ymddangos eu bod yn farciau personol ar y cerrig. Trafodwyd llawer o ddamcaniaethau ynghylch eu presenoldeb. Dangoswyd marciau oedd newydd gael eu darganfod. Daeth y rhain i\u2019r golwg yn dilyn llifogydd pan agorwyd y llifddorau i adael i’r ffos draenio. Dangoswyd sleid o gargoyle uwchben t\u0177 bach! O bosib yr adeiladwr yn dangos synnwyr digrifwch t\u0177 bach!<\/p>\n

Cawsom ein difyrru gan drafodaeth ein siaradwr am y diffyg gweithwyr benywaidd yn ystod adeiladu\u2019r castell. Nid oedd cofnod o fenywod o’r fath ar gofrestrau’r llysoedd. Fodd bynnag, roedd derbynneb ychwanegol ynghlwm wrth Roliau\u2019r Llys yn s\u00f4n am daliad i Cecillia o Gaint a dynes yn ei helpu i weithio ar adeiladu peiriannau gwarchae. Mae ffynonellau eraill yn cyfeirio at fenywod yn rhan o weithlu adeiladu castell Caernarfon ac yn Nolwyddelan ac felly mae\u2019n ymddangos bod merched yn gweithio fel crefftwyr a llafurwyr wrth adeiladu cestyll Gogledd Cymru.<\/p>\n

Daeth y sgwrs i ben gyda sleidiau o Gastell Biwmares fel y byddai wedi bod pe bai wedi’i orffen – golygfa fawreddog a godidog.<\/p>\n

Gofynnodd y gynulleidfa sawl cwestiwn a arweiniodd at drafodaethau mwy diddorol. Noson ardderchog a diolchwyd yn ddiffuant i’n siaradwr.<\/p>\n
