CROESO cynnes i rifyn 1 o Daflen Newyddion Grŵp Hanes Deganwy.
Ers i ni gychwyn ym mis Medi, mae’r Grŵp wedi symud ymlaen gymaint fel ein bod wedi ethol Pwyllgor ac wedi cytuno ar raglen waith am y flwyddyn sy’n dod. Cafwyd cytundeb ffurfiol ar gyfansoddiad y Grŵp ac mi fydd hyn yn galluogi’r Grŵp i ddatblygu ei brosiectau yn raddol dros gyfnod o flynyddoedd, gan obeithio y cawn arian o’r loteri.
Clywsom am brofiadau Cymdeithas Hanes Trefriw wrth iddynt sefydlu’r Gymdeithas yna. Bu’r wybodaeth a dderbyniwyd gan Mr a Mrs Aneurin Hughes a Mrs Karen Black o werth anhygoel i ni fel Grŵp i alluogi ni i gyrraedd lle rydym rŵan. Cawsom sgwrs arall gan Mr Ken Howarth o Gonwy ar y dechneg o gyfweld a’r dulliau i gael y wybodaeth orau gan bobl. Rhoddodd ein Gwefeistr, Mr Gwyn Hughes, sgwrs am dyfiant syfrdanol Deganwy, a dangosodd inni hen fapiau o’r ardal oedd yn cadarnhau hyn.
O ddiddordeb arbennig i’r Grŵp oedd y cyflwyniad a gawsom gan Mr Ian Halfpenney, Arolygydd Cynorthwyol Henebion CADW, am fenter CADW i dargedu safleoedd o arwyddocâd eiconig i ddiwylliant, treftadaeth a chenedligrwydd Cymreig. Dynodwyd

Cafodd y Grŵp caniatâd gan deulu’r diweddar Mr Eifion Roberts i archwilio ei gasgliad helaeth o gardiau post ac i sganio cardiau post Deganwy a’u osod ar wefan y Grŵp www.deganwyarchive.co.uk Rydym yn hynod o ddiolchgar i deulu Eifion am eu haelioni. Roedd gan Eifion diddordeb mawr mewn hanes lleol ac yn awyddus iawn i sefydlu Grŵp o’r fath yma.
Nod y Grŵp yw hyrwyddo addysg a gwybodaeth y cyhoedd yn hanes a threftadaeth pentref a chymuned Deganwy, gyda’r bwriad o sicrhau hanes diffiniedig a pharhaus am ei ddatblygiad.
Y prosiect am y flwyddyn sy’n dod yw casglu gymaint o wybodaeth ag sy’n bosibl oddi wrth bobl sydd wedi byw yn yr ardal am lawer o flynyddoedd ac i gofnodi eu hatgofion mewn llyfryn y gobeithir ei gyhoeddi ar ddiwedd y flwyddyn.
Cafodd Grwpiau Diddordeb Arbennig (GiauDA) eu sefydlu i alluogi aelodau i gynnal ymchwil mewn meysydd penodol lle mae ganddynt ryw faint o arbenigedd. Mae GDA oes Victoria eisoes wedi dechrau ar ei waith ac wedi trafod hanes y cei gyda Mr Eric Smith sydd wedi paratoi papur ar y pwnc yn ddiweddar.
Fe gyhoeddir rhaglen o gyfarfodydd am y flwyddyn nesaf yn fuan ac fe’i gwelir ar wefan y Grŵp yn y man.

WELCOME to edition No 1 of the History of Deganwy Group News Letter.
Since its inception in September, the Group has progressed to such an extent that by now, it has an elected Committee and has agreed upon a programme of work for the forthcoming year. The Group’s constitution has been formally approved and this will allow the Group to gradually develop its projects over a period of years, hopefully with lottery funding.
We have had the benefit of hearing of the experiences of the Trefriw Historical Society in setting up that Society. The information we received from Mr and Mrs Aneurin Hughes and Mrs Karen Black has been of immense value to us as a Group in getting us to where we are now. Another talk was given by Mr Ken Howarth of Conwy on interviewing techniques and how to get the best information from people. Our Webmaster, Mr Gwyn Hughes, gave an eye opening talk about Deganwy’s growth by the display of old maps of the area.
Ian Halfpenny walk on Vardre
Of particular interest to the Group was a presentation given by Mr Ian Halfpenney, Assistant Inspector of Ancient Monuments with CADW about CADW’s initiative to target particular sites of iconic significance to Welsh culture, heritage and nationhood. Deganwy Castle has been identified as a key site to benefit from this initiative.
The Group has been given access to the extensive postcard collection of the late Mr Eifion Roberts. His family have kindly given their permission for the Group to electronically scan the Deganwy postcards and to post them on the Group’s website www.deganwyarchive.co.uk. We are extremely indebted to Eifion’s family for this very generous gesture. Eifion was very interested in local history and eager to see a Group of this sort being formed.
The Group’s objectives are to promote the education and knowledge of the public in the history and heritage of the village and community of Deganwy, with the aim of securing a permanent, definitive history of its development.
The project for the coming year is to gather as much information as possible from people who have lived in the area for many years and to record their reminiscences in a booklet that will be produced at the end of the exercise.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have been set up to allow members to research specific areas in which they may have some expertise. The Victorian era SIG has already started its work and discussed the history of the dock with Mr Eric Smith who has recently produced a paper on the subject.
The Group’s programme of meetings for the forthcoming year will be prepared shortly and will be posted on the website in due course.
