CROESO cynnes i rifyn 3 o Daflen Newyddion Grŵp Hanes Deganwy.Mae pethau wedi symud ymlaen yn gyflym ym mywyd byr y Grŵp nad yw eto yn flwydd oed.Ar hyn o bryd mae gennym 38 o aelodau, nid cynnydd mawr ers y Daflen Newyddion diwethaf ond mae’n galonogol i wybod bod yna gymaint o ddiddordeb yn ein gweithgareddau, nid yn unig yn Neganwy, ond ymhellach draw hefyd. Mae’n dda cael croesawu rhai nad ydynt yn aelodau i’n cyfarfodydd, ond fe ddylem wneud ein gorau i’w recriwtio yn aelodau fel y gallent gymryd rhan a chyfrannu i’n gweith gareddauErs y Daflen Newyddion diwethaf cawsom sgwrs gan Mr Dennis Roberts, cyn Pennaeth Ysgol Deganwy, am hanes Castell Deganwy; cawsom fwynhau 2 taith cerdded o gwmpas Deganwy dan arweiniad Mrs Elan Rivers; rydym wedi ymweld â’r Castell i gael esboniad gan Mr Ian Halfpenney o’r gwaith mae CADW yn gwneud ar y safle.Er bod llawer iawn o waith ymchwil yn mynd ymlaen gan aelodau unigol ac adroddiadau yn cael eu paratoi ar gyfer ein gwefan, nid yw gwaith y Grwpiau Diddordeb Arbennig (GDA) yn mynd ymlaen fel y rhagwelwyd. Mae hyn yn siom oherwydd gallai’r Grwpiau hyn fod yn fanteisiol iawn, nid yn unig i’r Grŵp ond i’r aelodau hefyd wrth iddynt gydweithio gyda’i gilydd.Cawsom grantiau gan Gyngor Tref Conwy a Chyngor Gwasanaethau Gwirfoddol Conwy. Yn anffodus ni fyddem yn gallu symud ymlaen gyda Phrosiect 2010 fel y bwriadwyd. Y prif reswm am hyn yw’r amserlen dynn a osodwyd gennym a hefyd y diffyg arian i gynhyrchu’r Llyfryn. Rydym rŵan yn edrych i’w gyhoeddi yn y Gwanwyn/Haf 2011. Er hynny rydym yn gobeithio cael calendrau 2011 yn dangos lluniau o hen Ddeganwy yn barod erbyn y Nadolig unwaith y byddem wedi datrys y broblem gymhleth o hawlfraint.
Fel y gwelwch o’ch Tocyn Aelodaeth, fe drefnwyd siaradwyr ar gyfer gweddill y flwyddyn. Rydym ar hyn o bryd yn paratoi rhaglen 2011, felly, os gwyddoch am rywun a fuasai’n barod i roi cyflwyniad i’r Grŵp cysylltwch ag aelod o’r Pwyllgor. Fe welwch hefyd o’ch rhaglen ein bod am gael Arddangosfa ym mis Rhagfyr yn cynnwys te a mins peis. Fe werthfawrogir unrhyw help yn y maes hwn. Y newyddion mwyaf arwyddocaol fodd bynnag yw’r rhodd gan Mrs Betty Mills o’i chyfrol ‘Flowers on a Path’. Roedd Mrs Mills yn byw yn Neganwy ar un adeg ac mae ei chyfrol yn disgrifio’r planhigion a welir yn tyfu ar lethrau isaf deheuol y Fardre rhwng y giatiau mochyn ar Park Drive ac Eglwys yr Holl Saint dros gyfnod o flwyddyn. Mae’n gwaith hynod ac rydym ar hyn o bryd yn ceisio cymorthgrant i’w gyhoeddi. Rydym yn naturiol yn ddiolchgar iawn i Mrs Mills am ei haelioni. Cofiwch y gallwch weld cofnodion y Grŵp ar ein gwefan ac os hoffech wneud unrhyw sylw am weith gareddau’r Pwyllgor, cysylltwch ag un o’r aelodau neu cynigiwch eich hun i fod yn aelod. Ac yn olaf, rydym yn llongyfarch Vicky ar ei hetholiad fel Maer Conwy a Chwnstabl y Castell. Hydref 2010 |
WELCOME to edition No 3 of the History of Deganwy Group Newsletter.
Things have moved on apace again in the short life of the Group which is not even a year old yet. Our current membership stands at 38, not a great increase since our last Newsletter, but it is heartening to realise that there is so much interest in our activities not only in Deganwy but also further afield. It is also good to welcome non-members to our meetings, but we should do all we can to recruit them as members so that they can participate in and contribute to our activities.
Since the last Newsletter we have had a talk by Mr Dennis Roberts, former Headteacher at Ysgol Deganwy, about the history of Castell Deganwy; we have enjoyed 2 Deganwy walks under the guidance of Mrs Elan Rivers; we have visited the Castle site to view CADW’s project and been given an explanation of the work by Mr Ian Halfpenney.
Although much research work is being carried out by individual members and reports are being prepared for our website, the work of the Special Interest Groups (SIG) is not going forward as anticipated. This is disappointing because these Groups could be very useful, not only to the main Group but also to the members themselves as they work together.
We have received grants from Conwy Town Council and Conwy Voluntary Services Council. Unfortunately we will not be able to go ahead with Project 2010 as planned. The main reason for this is the tight time scale we have set ourselves and the lack of finance to produce the Booklet. We are now looking to produce it in the Spring / Summer. 2011. Despite this we are hoping to produce a 2011 calendar showing pictures of old Deganwy by Christmas once the complicated problem of copyright has been resolved.
As you will see from your Membership Card, we have arranged speakers for the remainder of the year. We are at the present time preparing the programme for 2011, so, if you know of anybody who would be willing to give a presentation to the Group, then please contact a member of the Committee. You will also see from your programme that there will be an Exhibition in December including tea and mince pies. Any help in this area would be gratefully appreciated.
The most significant item of news however, is the gift to the Group of ‘Flowers on a Path’ by Mrs Betty Mills, a former resident of Deganwy. In her journal, she depicts the flora growing on the lower southern slopes of the Vardre between the kissing gates at Park Drive and All Saints Church over a period of 12 months. This is a most remarkable work and we are currently seeking grant aid to have it published. We are naturally extremely grateful to Mrs Mills for her generosity.
Remember to visit our website to view the Group’s minutes. If you wish to make any observations about the Committee’s activities, contact one of the members or why not become a member yourself.
Last but not least we congratulate Vicky on her election as Mayor of Conwy and Constable of the Castle.
