CROESO cynnes i rifyn y Gwanwyn o Daflen Newyddion Grŵp Hanes
Roedd y daflen newyddion diwethaf yn
son yn frwdfrydig am Arddangosfa Nadolig y Grŵp. Roedd yr arddangosfa ei hun yn wych ac rydym yn gwerthfawrogi cyfraniadau o’r eitemau a gafwyd gan yr aelodau.
OND yna daeth yr eira – fel lluwchwynt! Ni chawsom gymaint o ymwelwyr ac a ddisgwylid ond roedd pawb a ddaeth yn uchel eu clod am ansawdd yr arddangosion a’r cyflwyniadau gweledol. Ein dymuniad felly yw ail-gynnal yr Arddangosfa, gydag ychydig mwy o eitemau, gan obeithio bydd y tywydd yng nghleniach efo ni’r tro hwn. Mae Mrs Betty Mills wedi cytuno unwaith eto i roi sgwrs, y tro hwn ar ‘The Art of Wild Flowers’ ac fe wahoddwyd mudiadau eraill o’r gymuned i ymuno a ni. Araf yw’r gwerthiant o’i llyfr ’Flowers on a Path’, ar hyn o bryd ac felly rydym yn gofyn unwaith eto i bob aelod helpu gyda hyn.
Cynhaliwyd ein Cyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol yn Ionawr ac fe ailetholwyd pob Swyddog ac fe ailbenodwyd Jason yn Gadeirydd Ers y Daflen Newyddion diwethaf rydym unwaith eto wedi cael amrywiaeth o gyfarfodydd; yn Ionawr daeth Mr Vic Edwards atom i son am fadau Dyluniad Un Conwy a chyfeiriodd at yr ymdrechion sy’n mynd ymlaen i adfer gymaint o’r badau hyn ar gyfer dathliad penblwydd Clwb Hwylio Conwy yn gant oed yn ddiweddarach eleni. Yn Chwefror cawsom hanes addurniadol gan Mr Stuart Rivers ar y gwasanaeth tram o Fae Colwyn i Landudno rhwng 1907 a 1956, gwasanaeth a fwriadwyd i ddod i Ddeganwy.
Ym Mawrth cafwyd disgrifiad chwilfrydig gan Mr Nigel Bannerman am benrhyn y Creuddyn a Foryd Afon Gonwy a sut cafodd tirwedd a morlun yr ardal ei newid gan natur dros y canrifoedd. Mae Nigel wedi gwneud gwaith ymchwil wyddonol helaeth ar y pwnc hwn ac yn ei eiriau ei hun ‘mae llawer eto i’w wneud’. Fe ymwelwyd ag Archifdy Llandudno yn Chwefror, ac fel y dywedwyd yn flaenorol, gellir trefnu ymweliad arall ar gyfer y rhai nad oedd yn gallu bod yn bresennol y tro hwn – felly gwyliwch y gofod!
Hefyd cawsom daith ragorol o amgylch Castell Conwy dan arweiniad Cwnstabl y Castell ac yna i ymweld â Swyddfeydd y Guildhall. Fe godwyd dros £180 tuag at gronfa’r Grŵp gan Vicky trwy’r ymweliad hwn ac rydym yn hynod o ddiolchgar iddi am hyn. Roedd gennym stondin yn Ffair Hadau Conwy ym Mawrth a galwodd nifer fawr o bobl heibio i ddatgan diddordeb yn ein gweithgareddau.
Rydym yn edrych ymlaen yn eiddgar at sgyrsiau gan Mr Richard Clammer ar Stemars Trefriw a gan Mr Philip Evans ar Enwau Strydoedd. Mae ymweliad hefyd wedi ei drefnu i Gastell Aberlleiniog ger Biwmares ac Archifdy Caernarfon ar Fai 9fed a theithiau cerdded min nos i Lanrhos ym Mehefin ac i Gastell Deganwy yng Mae aelodaeth o’r Grŵp yn fwy na’r cyfanswm am y llynedd sydd yn dangos gymaint o ddiddordeb sydd yn ein gweithgareddau.
Fe hoffem weld pob aelod yn cymryd rhan gweithredol yn rhedeg y Grŵp. Fe hoffai’r Pwyllgor i chi ddweud wrthym am unrhyw newidiadau yr hoffech eu gweld ac unrhyw weithgareddau y dylai’r Grŵp cymryd diddordeb ynddynt. Os hoffech ymgymryd ag unrhyw rôl e.e. y wasg, cyhoeddusrwydd, y llyfrgell a.y.y.b. fe hoffem glywed gennych.
O ddiddordeb arbennig ar hyn o bryd yw gwaith ymchwil Gwyn, ein gwefeistr, ar Ysgol Woodlands. Os oes gennych unrhyw wybodaeth neu atgofion am yr Ysgol, yna fe fydd Gwyn yn falch i glywed gennych.
Hefyd, o ganlyniad i’r diddordeb a ddangoswyd yn ein cyfarfod diwethaf am dopograffeg penrhyn y Creuddyn, mae Nigel Bannerman wedi cytuno i arwain grŵp i gynnal fwy o waith ymchwil ar y testun. Rydym yn gobeithio bydd copïau called o’r adroddiadau sy’n ymddangos ar ein gwefan ar gael i’w gwerthu yn y dyfodol agos.
Mwynhewch yr Arddangosfa.
Gwanwyn 2011
WELCOME to the Spring edition of the History of Deganwy Group Newsletter.
The last newsletter referred enthusiastically to our Christmas Exhibition. The presentation was actually superb and the contribution of items by members was gratefully appreciated.
BUT then came the snow – and how! The attendance therefore was not as great as expected but everybody who came spoke very highly of the quality of the exhibits and the visual presentations. Our wish therefore is to repeat the Exhibition, with a few more items, in the hope that the weather will be kinder to us this time. Mrs Betty Mills has also agreed to give another talk – this time on ‘The Art of Wild Flowers’ and organisations within the wider Community have been invited to attend. Sales of her book ’Flowers on a Path’ are slow at the moment so once more we would ask all members to do all they can to help with this.
We held our Annual General Meeting in January and all the Officers were re-elected and Jason reappointed as our Chairman. Since the last Newsletter we have again had a very varied series of meetings; in January Mr Vic Edwards gave a talk on the Conwy One Design Boats and referred to the efforts which are being made to restore as many vessels as possible in time for the centenary celebrations of Conwy Yacht Club later this year. In February,
Mr Stuart Rivers gave an illustrated talk on the tram service which ran between Colwyn Bay and Llandudno from 1907 to 1956, a service which was planned to come to Deganwy. In March, we had an intriguing description of the Creuddyn peninsula and the Conwy Estuary and how nature has changed the landscape and seascape of the area over the centuries by Mr Nigel Bannerman. Nigel has done extensive scientific research into this subject and in his own words ‘there’s lots more to be done’ We undertook a visit to the Llandudno archives in February, and as previously stated, this visit can be repeated at a later date for those who were not able to attend – so watch this space!
We also had a splendid guided tour of Conwy Castle by the Constable of the Castle followed by a visit to the Town Council Offices in the Guildhall. Vicky raised over £180 towards the Group’s funds with this event and we are extremely grateful to her for this. We also had a stand at the Conwy Seed Fair in March where many people expressed considerable interest in our activities.
Forthcoming events to look forward to are talks by Mr Richard Clammer on the Trefriw Steamers, and by Mr Philip Evans on Street Names.
Trips have also been arranged to Castell Aberlleiniog near Beaumaris and Caernarfon Archives on May 9th and evening walks have been arranged to Llanrhos in June and to Deganwy Castle in July.
Membership of the Group has exceeded the numbers for last year which shows how much interest there is in our activities. We would however like to see every member becoming actively involved in the running of the Group. The Committee would like you to let us know of any changes you would like to see and of any other activities with which you feel the Group could become involved. If there is any particular role you may beinterested in taking on e.g. press, publicity, library etc. we would be glad to hear from you.
Of particular interest at the moment is the work that Gwyn, our webmaster, is doing on Woodlands School. If anybody has any information or reminiscences about the School, Gwyn would be glad to hear from you. Also, as a result of the interest shown in our last talk about the topography of the Creuddyn peninsula, Nigel Bannerman has agreed to lead a group to undertake further research on the subject.
We are hoping to have hard copies of the reports which appear on our website for sale in the near future.
Enjoy the Exhibition.
