2011 Nadolig

Rhif 7

Daw’r rhifyn Nadoligaidd hwn o Daflen Newyddion Grŵp Hanes Deganwy gyda chyfarchion y Tymor i’n holl aelodau gan obeithio na ddaw’r

tywydd gaeafol a gafwyd Nadolig diwethaf yn ôl eleni.

Ar ddiwedd ein hail flwyddyn mae’n deg dweud ein bod wedi cyflawni llawer iawn mewn amser byr. Un o brif lwyddiannau eleni oedd i nifer ein haelodaeth nid yn unig rhuthro heibio nifer llynedd ond i ni lwyddo i fynd heibio’r rhif pum deg.

Cawn obeithio y gwnawn hyd yn oed yn well yn 2012.

Dyma yn naturiol yw’r adeg pan fyddem yn edrych yn ôl ar ddigwyddiadau’r flwyddyn a aeth heibio, ac felly rydym unwaith eto wedi cymryd y cyfle i gynnal Diwrnod Agored i arddangos yr hyn a waned gennym, yn weledol ac mewn adroddiadau. Gobeithio y mwynhewch yr arddangosfa ac fe hoffem ddiolch i bawb a fu’n gyfrifol am drefnu’r arddangosfa a hefyd i’r rhai a gyfrannodd eitemau.

Rhaid wrth gwrs edrych ymlaen at y dyfodol hefyd, ac felly fe ddarparwyd rhaglen ddiddorol ar gyfer y Grŵp yn 2012. Y peth cyntaf i wneud, fodd bynnag yw adnewyddu eich aelodaeth (a hefyd ceisio recriwtio aelodau newydd). Mae’r tâl aelodaeth wedi aros yr un, sef £10 am  lwyddyn lawn a £2 i ymwelwyr sy’n taro i mewn ar achlysuron unigol.

Mi fyddwch yn gwybod wrth gwrs am y buddiannau o fod yn aelod ond mi fyddai’n werth eich atgoffa am adnoddau ein gwefan a’n llyfrgell sydd ar gael i bob aelod i’w defnyddio. Mae’r adnoddau hyn yn parhau i dyfu wrth i ni dderbyn mwy a mwy o gyfraniadau tuag at ein nod o baratoi darlun cynhwysfawr o Ddeganwy a’r Creuddyn yn yr oes a Buom yn ffodus iawn i gael tywydd braf ar ein gwibdeithiau yn 2011 a chawn obeithio y byddem yr un mor ffodus yn 2012.

Mae trefniadau ar y gweill i ymweld â Thomen y Mur a Chastell y Bere yn y Gwanwyn ac yna Plasty Mostyn a Chastell y Fflint yn yr Digwyddiad o bwys yn 2012 bydd ein Cinio Blynyddol cyntaf. Fe gynhelir y digwyddiad yma yng Ngwesty Cei Deganwy, dydd Sul yr 20fed Mai am hanner dydd. Ein gwestai arbennig bydd Mrs Frances Lynch, arbenigwraig enwog ar yr Oes Efydd.

Rydym yn parhau i geisio gwerthu llyfr Mrs Betty Mills, ’Flowers on a Path’. Wrth gwrs rydym yn awyddus i gymaint posibl o bobl leol cael y cyfle o gael copi o’r llyfr hyfryd, darluniadol a lliwgar hwn ac wrth gwrs rydym hefyd yn awyddus iawn i dalu’n ôl y benthyciad caredig a gafwyd i alluogi ni i gyhoeddi’r llyfr. Am y rhesymau hyn, rydym wedi gostwng pris y llyfr I £5. Fel arall, cewch brynu dau am £7.50 neu 3 am £10. Fe wneir ceisiadau am gyllid grant yn y flwyddyn newydd, fel y gallem gyflwyno ein hadnoddau a’n hadroddiadau yn fwy effeithiol yn y dyfodol ac rydym yn gwerthfawrogi caredigrwydd a chydweithrediad swyddogion Capel Peniel am adael i ni gael defnyddio’r Capel

St. Mary's Well

St. Mary’s Well

Bydd llawer ohonoch wedi darllen erthygl Ken Davies ar Ffynnon Santes Fair yn Llanrhos a ddarganfuwyd ganddo ar ddamwain ym 1993 o ganlyniad i’r llifogydd ofnadwy’r flwyddyn honno. Gweithiodd Ken yn galed iawn i glirio’r safle ar yr adeg hynny, ond yn y cyfamser fe orchuddiwyd y Ffynnon unwaith eto gyda drain a mieri yn ogystal â sbwriel. Felly, aeth Ken ati fel ‘Gadfridog’ i recriwtio aelodau o’r Grŵp i’w gynorthwyo i adfer y safle i’ stad naturiol. Mae’ dda cael dweud bod y gwaith o glirio’ llanastr wedi ei gwblhau erbyn hyn ac fe hoffai Ken ddiolch i’ holl wirfoddolwyr a gymerodd rhan yn y prosiect ac am eu gwaith caled – cafodd neb orffwys ar ei raw! Dyma’ fath o brosiect sy’ dangos pa mor ddefnyddiol gall y Grŵp fod trwy ddiogelu a gofalu am y nodweddion pwysig sy’n bodoli yn y Gymuned lle rydym yn byw.

Mwynhewch y Diwrnod Agored. Unwaith eto, Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i’ holl

Christmas 2011

No. 7

This Christmas edition of the History of Deganwy Group Newsletter comes wishing all our members the compliments of the Season and in the hope that the wintery conditions we had last Christmas don’t return this year.
At the end of our second year, it is fair to say that we have achieved much in a short period of time. One of our main achievements this year however was that we not only surpassed last year’s membership level but broke through the fifty barrier. Let’s hope we can do even better in 2012.
This is naturally the time of year when we reflect upon the past year’s activities and so we have taken the opportunity to once again hold an
Open Day to portray our achievements, both visually and in written reports. We very much hope that you will enjoy the exhibition and
we would like to thank all who have been involved in organising the exhibition and also to those who have provided material.

We must of course also look to the future and accordingly, an interesting programme has been prepared for the Group in 2012. The first thing to do, however, is to renew your membership (and also seek to recruit new members). The membership fee remains the same at £10 for a full year and £2 for visitors attending individual meetings. You will of course be aware of the benefits of membership but it would be as well to remind you of our website and our library facilities which all members are entitled to view and make use of. These facilities continue
to grow as we receive more and more contributions towards our objective of preparing a comprehensive picture of Deganwy and Creuddyn in days gone by.

We were fortunate with good weather on the 2 field trips we undertook in 2011 and we can only hope to be as fortunate in 2012.

Provisional arrangements have been made to visit Tomen y Mur and Castell y Bere in the Spring and Mostyn Hall and Flint Castle in the Autumn.
An important event in 2012 will be our first Annual Dinner. This will be a luncheon at Deganwy Quay Hotel on Sunday 20th May. Our guest speaker will be Mrs Frances Lynch, a renowned expert on the Bronze Age.
We are continuing to try to sell Mrs Betty Mills’ book ’Flowers on a Path’. Of course we are anxious for as many local people as possible to have the opportunity of having a copy of this delightfully illustrated book. We are also anxious to repay the very generous loan we received to enable us to publish the book in the first place. For these reasons, we have therefore reduced the sale price of the book to £5. Otherwise you can buy 2 copies for £7.50 or 3 for £10.
Grant applications will be made in the new year for financial assistance, so that we will be able to present our resources in a more effective way in the future and we appreciate the generosity and co-operation of the officers of Peniel Chapel in allowing us the use of the Chapel.

Ken

Many of you will have read Ken Davies’ article on St Mary’s Well in Llanrhos, which he discovered accidentally in 1993 as a result of the
dreadful floods we experienced in that year. Ken worked very hard to clear the site of the Well at that time but since then the site has become covered with undergrowth and with discarded refuse. So Ken, as ‘Commander in Chief’, set about recruiting members of the Group to help restore the site its natural state. It is very gratifying to state that the work of removing the debris has now been completed and Ken would like to thank all of the volunteers who participated in this project for their hard work – nobody was allowed to rest on his spade! This
sort of project just shows how useful the Group can be in conserving and caring for important features which exist in the Community in which we live.

Enjoy the Open Day..
Once again, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our members.
