Snippets of History 2026

On Thursday 19th February the Deganwy History Group were treated to a Snippets evening with a difference. As is custom for the Snippets evening, speakers gave talks on topics they have researched or have direct links with. The difference this year was that we were delighted to have a musical section to compliment our evening.

Our first talk was by Diane Williams titled, Conwy Women. Diane told us about several women from Conwy who had contributed to Conwy either in terms of culture and or politics. Please click on the link to read about Women of Conwy.

Our second talk was titled Gold in Guano by Trefor Price. Trefor and his wife have visited Peru a number of times and in 2024 they visited Paracas National Park where some constructions on the Chincha Islands initiated some research when they returned home. The third item was a musical section by Paula and Hazel, two local musicians. Paula has followed some of the history group’s talks and was inspired to write songs about Conwy and its people. The first song was about Conwy town, its castle, jackdaws and oyster catchers. The second song was a tribute to Gwladys Roberts and her life harvesting mussels in the river Conwy. The final song was about a shipwreck off the Skerries, Anglesey, and Evan Thomas known for his work as a bonesetter. A marble plaque lies inside the church of Llanfairynghornwy after Evan successfully treated the wife of Lord Bulkley.

Thank you to Diane and Trefor for your very informative talks and a special thank you to Paula and Hazel for entertaining us with your songs which I understand will be made available on CD in the near future, released under their stage name Darwish and Mary.
